Hon. Candice Bergen

Meet The Candidate

Candice Bergen is a proud Canadian and a lifelong Conservative.  She currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Portage – Lisgar and Official Opposition House Leader.

Born in Morden, MB, Candice has extensive political experience.  Over the years her service to Canadian Conservatism has included being a grassroots volunteer in Southern Manitoba, a political organizer, and as a Cabinet Minister.
Candice has also been elected by the people of Southern Manitoba three consecutive times – in 2008, 2011 and 2015, with as much as 76% of the vote.

In 2011, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Candice as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety.  She was integral in the efforts to finally end the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry.
Building upon that success, she was elevated to Cabinet in 2013, as Minister of State for Social Development.

Following the disappointing 2015 election, Candice was appointed as Official Opposition Critic for Natural Resources. Most recently she was named Opposition House Leader. As the House Leader, Candice coordinates the Conservative agenda for Parliament. She is the first Conservative woman to hold this position.

Bergen’s family – including her mother, children, and granddaughter – all proudly call southern Manitoba home.
